Sunday School Lessons - 2015
Weaving God's Promises Lessons
Sunday, January 18 - Calling Samuel In today's story God calls out to Samuel when he's sleeping in the temple. Samuel, being a child, doesn't understand and thinks it's someone else calling his name. Often times we're too busy or too confused to hear God calling to us. (1 Samuel 3:1-20) Sunday, January 25 - Fish for People In today's story, Jesus begins to build his core group, we call them the Apostles. Some might call them a rag-tag group who barely knew what they were doing. They taught us how to follow Jesus (Mark 1:14-20) Sunday, February 1 - Jonah This week's story is about as outlandish a story as you can find in the Bible. Jonah is told by God to go tell the people of Nineveh to change their ways, he doesn't want to, so he runs in the wrong direction. Then a giant fish shows up and everything goes wrong. (Jonah) Sunday, February 8 - Jesus Heals Sick People Jesus has become very popular. So popular everyone is trying to see him. Some friends come up with a crazy way to get their sick friend into a house to see Jesus. (Mark 2:1-12) |
Sunday Dinner Discussion Ideas
After Sunday School are you looking for ways to talk with your children about what they heard and what they learned? Here are some ideas for you to get them talking, and praying with you at dinner. Sunday, January 18 - Calling Samuel Ask your children what they heard in Sunday School this morning. Have them retell the story for you. Have you ever heard God calling you? What did it sound like? What did God call you to do? How can your family work together to listen for God? Sunday, January 25 - Fish for People Ask your children what they heard in Sunday School this morning. Have them retell the story for you. Tell your kids about the person or people who encouraged you to come to church. Who was it that shared their faith with you that made you a follower of Christ? Sunday, February 1 - Jonah Ask your children what they heard in Sunday School this morning. Have them retell the story for you. Sometimes it is hard to do the right thing, sometimes it's easier to hide or not speak up. Talk with your children about a time when you did something difficult or unpopular or brave because you knew it was the right thing to do. How did God help you get it done? Sunday, February 8 - Jesus Heals Sick People Ask your children what they heard in Sunday School this morning. Have them retell the story for you. Has there ever been a time when it seemed the odds were stacked against you? Tell your children about an experience where you and your friends had to work together to help someone else. How did you feel when you achieved a goal together? How did God help you? A Note about our Curriculum
Weaving God's Promises is an Episcopal Curriculum that covers the three year lectionary cycle. The children in our Fourth & Fifth Grade class will hear the same stories as their younger siblings in our Godly Play classes (usually), but on a level equal to their age and learning capabilities. For more information on Weaving God's Promises, or to download the lesson if you're teaching, go to their site. |
