Junior & Senior High Lessons for January & February 2015
Junior High Lessons for January
Sunday, January 18 - The Sermon on the Mount: Don't Worry The Sermon on the Mount presents some of Jesus’ most memorable and challenging teachings. His teachings challenged the status quo and encouraged his followers to live differently—to lead lives of significance. This lesson will help your students discover how to transform worry into faith and recognize how Jesus promises to provide for everything we need. The class will focus on Matthew 6:25-34 and Phillipians 4:6-7. Sunday, January 25 - The Sermon on the Mount: Pray like Jesus Prayed Prayer is a spiritual discipline that intimidates many people. It can be hard to know if prayer makes a difference, means anything, or even how to pray. Jesus gave us a concrete example of how to pray though what's now called the Lord's Prayer. Following Jesus' example can transform not just our prayer lives but also our entire lives. The class will focus on Matthew 6:5-15. Sunday, February 1 - The Beginning of Jesus' Ministry: Baptism Most people are familiar with the cross as a symbol of Christianity, and many people may even think of a baby in a manger as a symbol of our faith. But sometimes we overlook baptism as a symbol for those who are followers of Jesus. The class will focus on Matthew 3:1-6, 11-17. Sunday, February 22 - The Beginning of Jesus' Ministry: Temptation Jesus spent 40 days in the wilderness without food, and during that time the devil tempted him. Even though Jesus was hungry and tired, he resisted the temptation. Knowing this can help us understand the grace and mercy of God. This lesson will help the kiddos see how Jesus can help them in their battles with temptation because he has faced temptation, too. The class will focus on Matthew 4:1-11. A Note about the Yooth Curriculum
The Yooth at St. John's use a curriculum called Live. It is specially written with teens in mind, and covers a lot of the questions they have, but might have been too scared to ask. Some of the topics we will be covering this year include: Miracles and The Controversial Jesus. You can go to the website to learn a little more about it. Teachers can log in here to find lesson plans. |
